Wedding Season Marketing in Kolkata: A Simple Guide for Every Vendor

Wedding Vendor Marketing in Kolkata 2026-27

If you serve weddings in Kolkata, this guide is for you. It shows which couples to chase right now, what to fix first, and what each kind of wedding vendor should do. The language is simple and the steps are free to start.

It is 11:40 pm. A bride in Salt Lake, whose wedding is in February, has three tabs open. One is a directory with forty photographers on it. One is an Instagram profile that has not posted since September. The third is your Google listing. It shows two photos, no price and a phone number that rings twice and goes quiet. She messages the second photographer on the directory. In the morning she tells her mother that the photographer is sorted.

You never know this happened. Whether you run a banquet, cook for 400 guests, sew lehengas or sell bridal sets, this moment is happening to someone in your trade right now.

The good news is that you can fix almost all of it for free in one weekend. This guide shows how, trade by trade. It covers wedding planners, venues, caterers, decorators, photographers, outfit shops, jewellers, makeup artists, dentists, mehendi artists, card and gift sellers, DJs, cab owners and honeymoon travel agents.

Which Wedding Are You Selling Right Now?

Many vendors market for the wrong wedding. They push the dates that are two weeks away, when those couples booked their big vendors months ago. Two popular planning checklists (Manyavar and Mohey, March 2024, and VenueLook, updated April 2026) give a rough idea of when couples decide:

VendorWhen couples usually book
Venue6 to 12 months before the wedding
PhotographerStart looking about 12 months before, confirm by about 12 weeks before
CatererBook around 6 months before
DecoratorStart talking about 12 months before, book by 6 months before
Makeup and mehendi artistBetween 9 months and 12 weeks before, often after a trial
Lehenga, saree and sherwaniChoose around 6 months before. Custom pieces need 2 to 3 months
Bridal jewelleryShop around 6 months before, finalise about 1 month before
Invitation cardsOrder around 6 months before

These are general Indian checklists, and families differ, so use them as a guide. They still change how you should plan:

Wedding dateWhere the couple is nowWhat you should do
21 Nov to 12 Dec 2026Final stage. Big bookings are done.Sell late jobs: outfit finishing, makeup, mehendi, gifts, cabs, extra decor. Tell people you have last-minute slots.
January to March 2027About 2 to 4 months away. They are confirming photographers and makeup, and shopping for outfits and jewellery. This is your main target this month. Be easy to find and quick to reply.
November 2027 and laterAbout a year away. Early couples are looking at venues and photographers.Stay visible with reels and reviews. Take early bookings.

The Season in Dates

The main wedding season opens after Dev Uthani Ekadashi, which is on 20 November 2026. August, September and most of October have very few or no auspicious dates. So many vendors are coming off a quiet spell.

Here is a number that shows how tight the next weeks are. Between 21 November and 12 December, only seven dates appear on all three wedding calendars we checked: 21, 24 and 25 November, and 2, 3, 4 and 12 December. Everyone is chasing the same few days.

WindowDates commonly listed
November 202620 (season opens), 21, 24, 25. Some calendars also list 26.
December 20262, 3, 4, 12. Some calendars add 1, 5, 6, 10, 11 and 13.
January to March 2027One calendar we checked lists dates from 18 January to 14 March 2027.

Please note: dates change with the panjika (the Bengali almanac) and with each community. Confirm exact dates with the family or their priest.

What the Numbers Say

Three published sources help us see the size of the market. All three are third party figures, so we have named each one.

  • Big money: the traders' body CAIT estimated about 48 lakh weddings and about ₹6 lakh crore of business in the 2024 season (12 November to 16 December 2024). This is an all India number from an earlier year. In CAIT's split, jewellery took about 15 percent of spending. Tent decoration, catering and clothes took about 10 percent each. Venues took 5, flowers 4, and photography and video 2. These shares add up to 97 percent in the article, so treat them as rough.
  • Kolkata is searching: Justdial reported that, from January to November 2024 compared with the same months of 2023, key wedding service searches in Kolkata grew 32 percent. Banquet halls grew 48 percent, candid photographers 19 percent and wedding planners 9 percent.
  • Couples read reviews: WedMeGood's 2025-26 report, based on more than 2,000 couples, says one in three couples check online reviews before booking a vendor. It also says vendor growth is led by referrals and Instagram.

In short: people search, read reviews and scroll Instagram. Word of mouth still matters most, but now it travels through a phone screen before it becomes a booking.

Fix These Four Things First (Free, One Weekend)

1. Your Google Business Profile

This is the free listing with your name, phone, photos and reviews on Google Search and Maps. Claim it, then check four things. Is the main category right (for example Wedding photographer, Banquet hall, Caterer, Makeup artist or Jewelry store)? Is the phone answered? Are the photos real and recent? Does the description show a starting price? Our guide to ranking on Google Maps in Kolkata walks you through it.

2. WhatsApp Business

It is a free app. Put your packages or menu in the catalogue. Write quick replies for the five questions you hear daily: is my date free, what is the price, what is included, how much advance, what if I cancel. Aim to reply within ten minutes. More tips in WhatsApp marketing for Kolkata businesses.

3. A review link and QR code

In your Google profile, open your reviews and use the option to get more reviews. It gives you a link and a QR code. Send it on WhatsApp within two days of the event, while the family is happy. Ask them to mention what they liked. Do not buy reviews. Google's rules do not allow fake reviews, and generic praise stands out to careful readers.

4. An Instagram bio that answers everything

Say what you do, which city, a starting price (or "packages on WhatsApp") and add a WhatsApp link. Make four highlights: Real Weddings, Packages, Client Words and Open Dates. A couple should know in ten seconds if you are right for them.

Your Trade: 15 Wedding Vendors, One Plan Each

Find your trade below. Each plan has what couples look for, what to fix first, a post idea and where we can help.

1. Wedding Planners and Event Managers

What couples look for: searches like "wedding planners in kolkata with price" and "Bengali wedding planner". On the map, planners show their rating and review count up front. Justdial saw Kolkata planner searches grow only 9 percent in 2024, so you win on trust, not volume.

Fix first: choose the Wedding planner category. Show three package bands (budget, mid, premium). Write up three real weddings with the budget range and what you handled.

Post idea: a reel of one Bengali wedding from Gaye Holud set-up to Bou Bhaat, with the vendors you worked with tagged.

How we help: a case-study website, Google profile work and reels. See our web design and SEO services.

2. Banquet Halls and Venues

What couples look for: "banquet hall in kolkata wedding price", "small banquet hall in kolkata", "cheap banquet hall". Justdial saw Kolkata banquet searches grow 48 percent in 2024, the fastest of the three Kolkata figures it gave.

Fix first: one page with hall capacity, parking, rooms, whether outside catering is allowed, price from, and open dates. Do not make people call to find these out.

Post idea: a 30 second walk from the gate to the stage, with capacity written on screen.

How we help: website, Google profile and Meta lead ads. Start with our local SEO guide.

3. Caterers

What couples look for: menu, price per plate, a tasting, hygiene, and proof you have fed a crowd their size. Google even asks, "How much does wedding catering cost in Kolkata?"

Fix first: sample menus (Bengali, North Indian, mixed), a starting price per plate, tasting booking on WhatsApp, and real food photos in good light.

Post idea: a close-up reel of a dish being served, such as fish fry or mishti, with the plate price range on screen.

How we help: local SEO, Click to WhatsApp ads and menu pages. Read digital marketing for restaurants in Kolkata, as the food-photo and Maps tips apply to you.

4. Decorators and Florists

What couples look for: your style and your real set-ups. In CAIT's 2024 split, tent decoration took about 10 percent of wedding spending and flowers about 4 percent, so the budget is there.

Fix first: a gallery sorted by theme (traditional Bengali, pastel, floral mandap, minimal). Add "starting from" prices for each theme.

Post idea: a time-lapse of an empty hall turning into a stage. It is easy to make and people love it.

How we help: Instagram, website gallery and design. See social media marketing.

5. Photographers and Videographers

What couples look for: "wedding photographers in kolkata with price", "pre wedding photographers in kolkata", "Bengali wedding photographer". Justdial saw Kolkata candid photographer searches grow 19 percent in 2024, and cinematic photographer searches doubled across India.

Fix first: a page per style (Bengali, Marwari, pre-wedding). Show one full gallery, not just highlights. Show your packages.

Post idea: a 20 second highlight reel with the couple's first name (with permission) and the date.

How we help: portfolio website, SEO, reel editing and Google profile. Our graphics and design team can also make your price cards.

6. Bridal Wear: Lehenga, Saree and Boutiques

What couples look for: "bridal lehenga shop in kolkata with price", "readymade bridal lehenga shop", "affordable lehenga shops". The WedMeGood list shows price ranges up front. Justdial also saw demand for rented pre-wedding gowns grow 47 percent across India.

Fix first: real photos of real pieces with a starting price. Offer trial booking on WhatsApp. Add store photos and your address to Google.

Post idea: a try-on reel (with permission) that ends with "book your trial on WhatsApp".

Read next: social media marketing for boutiques, growing a saree shop and saree video content.

7. Groom Wear: Sherwani, Kurta and Menswear

What couples look for: "sherwani for men wedding in kolkata", "best sherwani shop in kolkata with price", kurta sets for the family. Shops in the results show prices on their product pages.

Fix first: a price on every item, a clear line on custom versus ready-made, and how many days alterations take. Offer a family package for the groom, father and brothers.

Post idea: "One groom, three budgets": the same function in three outfits at three prices.

How we help: catalogue, Instagram and Meta ads. See our Google Ads versus Meta Ads guide.

8. Jewellers

What couples look for: bridal sets they can trust, custom orders and clear pricing. In CAIT's 2024 split, jewellery was the biggest share of wedding spending, at about 15 percent.

Fix first: collection reels, a WhatsApp catalogue, and shop photos on Google. Post the day's gold rate so people check you daily.

Post idea: a macro reel of a bridal set being made, from design to polish.

Read next, we have a full jewellery series: Instagram marketing for jewellery shops (12 strategies that also work for other vendors), the complete jewellery marketing guide, SEO for jewellery stores, Google Ads for jewellers and WhatsApp for jewellery shops.

9. Makeup Artists and Bridal Salons

What couples look for: real bridal looks, a trial, packages and whether you suit their skin and hair. Many book after a trial, so make the trial easy.

Fix first: a gallery of different looks (with permission), a clear trial policy, package prices and WhatsApp booking. Post on your Google profile every week.

Post idea: "Trial to final look" reel, with the bride's reaction at the end.

Read next: Instagram reel ideas for salons, bridal season marketing for salons, Google Business Profile for salons and how to grow a salon.

10. Dentists and Cosmetic Dental Clinics

What couples look for: a clean check-up and a brighter, even smile before the photos. That means teeth cleaning and whitening, and for some people a smile makeover, veneers or braces. One dental article (Medbound Times, May 2024) advises a first check-up at least six months before the wedding. It says whitening can take one week to one month, veneers one to six months, and braces six months or more. Timing differs by patient, and the dentist always decides.

Rules first: India's rules for doctors and dentists limit how you can advertise, for example before and after photos and claims. Read our guide to NMC and NDC advertising rules before you post.

Fix first: the right category on Google and real photos of your clinic (not patient faces). Add a simple "wedding smile care" page that explains the steps and timing. Take check-up bookings on WhatsApp and reply fast.

Post idea: an educational reel called "Getting married in 6 months? When to book your dental check-up". No before and after photos.

How we help: website, local SEO and Google profile, all within these rules. Read our dental clinic local SEO guide, social media marketing for dental clinics and digital marketing for doctors in Kolkata.

11. Mehendi Artists

What couples look for: design styles, how long it takes, whether you travel to the venue, and the price per hand or per bride.

Fix first: a clean portfolio sorted by style (bridal, Arabic, simple, guest). Show your time per hand and your travel charge. Take bookings on WhatsApp.

Post idea: a time-lapse close-up of a design being drawn. Mehendi was made for reels.

How we help: Instagram, Google profile and simple booking pages.

12. Card Printers, Gift and Sweet Shops

What couples look for: sample designs, print time and bulk prices. Justdial saw searches for wedding card dealers grow 44 percent across India in 2024. CAIT's split put sweets and dry fruits at about 5 percent and gifts at about 4 percent.

Fix first: a catalogue of cards with a starting price and print time. Send a design preview on WhatsApp the same day. Show hamper photos with bulk rates.

Post idea: a card reveal or a hamper unboxing, with the price range on screen.

How we help: catalogue design, graphic design and Instagram.

13. DJs, Bands, Orchestras and Choreographers

What couples look for: proof of a live crowd. Justdial saw wedding choreographer searches grow 24 percent and orchestra searches 15 percent across India in 2024.

Fix first: post short clips of real performances on Instagram and YouTube. Share your song style, your equipment, a sangeet package and your open dates.

Post idea: a 20 second clip of the crowd reaction when the dance starts.

How we help: video editing, Instagram and YouTube. See social media marketing.

14. Wedding Cars and Cabs

What couples look for: photos of the car, decoration options, a driver they can trust, and clear package rates for the day.

Fix first: real photos of each car on Google, with the right category. Show package rates, such as hours and kilometres, and book on WhatsApp.

Post idea: a short reveal of a decorated bridal car at sunrise.

How we help: Google profile, WhatsApp set-up and a simple booking page.

15. Honeymoon and Travel Agents

What couples look for: honeymoon packages with a price per couple, a day-by-day plan and photos of real stays. Many couples plan this once the wedding date is fixed, so be visible early.

Fix first: one page per destination with a plan and a starting price. Collect reviews from couples you have sent away.

Post idea: a reel of "5 days in one place, with the price".

How we help: travel website SEO, destination pages and reels. We have worked on travel websites before.

Social Media Playbook for Every Vendor

Weddings are visual. Couples want to see your work before they call, which is why Instagram does so much of the selling. Six simple rules work for every trade above.

  1. Reels first. Keep them 15 to 30 seconds. Show real work and put your starting price on the screen.
  2. Use Stories for behind the scenes. Show set-up, trials and open dates as your wedding days fill up.
  3. Put WhatsApp in your bio. Every post should make it easy to start a chat.
  4. Tag the other vendors. Tag the venue, decorator and photographer from the same wedding. They often reshare, and their followers see you. Vendors who tag each other also send each other leads.
  5. Ask before you post client faces. A short yes on WhatsApp is enough.
  6. Boost only your best reel. Use a Click to WhatsApp ad on Meta, and judge it by real enquiries.

The 30 Day Plan

Week 1 (4 to 10 November): Fix the doors

  • ☐ Claim and complete your Google Business Profile
  • ☐ Set up WhatsApp Business with catalogue and quick replies
  • ☐ Make your Google review link and QR code
  • ☐ Rewrite your Instagram bio and add the four highlights

Week 2 (11 to 17 November): Show your work and your price

  • ☐ Upload fresh photos from your last three events to Google
  • ☐ Post two reels of real work, with a starting price on screen
  • ☐ Add starting prices or package names to your profile and catalogue

Week 3 (18 to 24 November): Run a small ad test

  • ☐ Pick your single best reel
  • ☐ Run it as a Click to WhatsApp ad aimed at couples marrying from January to March, with a daily budget you can afford to test for one week
  • ☐ Judge it by real enquiries, not likes. For cost ideas, read our digital marketing cost guide for Kolkata

Week 4 (25 November to 4 December): Follow up and look ahead

  • ☐ Send the review link to every client from the last month
  • ☐ Reply once, politely, to every enquiry that went quiet
  • ☐ Tag the other vendors from each wedding in your posts
  • ☐ Plan your posts for January to March and for next November

Mistakes That Cost Bookings

  • Selling only the wedding that is two weeks away. Those couples have already chosen. Market to January and later.
  • Depending only on directories. They are a good first hello, but your listing sits beside dozens of others. Own your Google profile, Instagram and WhatsApp too.
  • Replying the next morning. Couples often message a few vendors in the same hour. The first clear reply usually wins.
  • Hiding the price. You do not need a full rate card. A starting price saves a wasted call for both sides.
  • Posting the same five photos. Fresh, real work shows you are active.
  • Buying reviews. It breaks Google's rules. Ask real clients with a link.
  • Stopping when the season ends. Next season's couples start looking months before.

31 Quick Questions and Answers

What is wedding season marketing?

It means promoting your wedding business so couples find you, trust you and message you before they book. It uses Google, Instagram, WhatsApp and sometimes ads.

Who is this guide for?

Anyone who serves a wedding: planners, venues, caterers, decorators, photographers, outfit shops, jewellers, makeup artists and more. Jump to your trade in the list above.

When is the 2026-27 wedding season in Kolkata?

It opens around 20 November 2026 and has dates through December. It starts again in mid January 2027. Exact dates change with the panjika (Bengali almanac), so always confirm.

Are the November and December weddings already booked?

Mostly yes for the big things like venue, photographer and caterer. Two popular checklists say to book these 6 to 12 months ahead. Late jobs like makeup, mehendi, gifts and cabs still come in.

If those weddings are booked, why market now?

Because couples marrying from January to March are choosing vendors now. Couples marrying next November also start looking about a year ahead.

Is Instagram or Google better for wedding vendors?

Instagram makes people like your work. Google helps people who are ready to call you find you. You need both.

I am on WedMeGood or Justdial. Do I still need my own website?

Yes. A directory shows many vendors on one page. Your own website and Google profile are the places you control.

What is a Google Business Profile?

It is the free listing that shows your business name, photos, phone and reviews on Google Search and Maps. It is the first thing many couples see.

What should my Google profile show?

The right category, real photos of real events, a phone number you answer, correct hours and a starting price. Add new photos often.

Should I show my prices?

Show a starting price or package names. Many people search with the words "with price", so hidden prices lose clicks.

How fast should I reply to an enquiry?

Try to reply within 10 minutes during working hours. Couples often message two or three vendors at the same time.

What is WhatsApp Business?

It is a free app for businesses. It gives you a catalogue, quick replies, auto replies and labels to sort your chats.

How do I get more Google reviews?

Send your review link on WhatsApp within two days of the event. Ask them to mention what they liked, like the function or the food.

Can I buy Google reviews?

No. It breaks Google's rules and can hurt your profile. Ask real clients instead.

What should I post on Instagram?

Post real work: short reels from events, before and after, client words and your packages. Real beats fancy.

Do I really need reels?

Yes. Reels show your work in motion and can reach people who do not follow you yet.

How often should I post?

A few good posts and reels every week is better than daily random posts. Keep it steady all season.

Can I post my client's photos?

Ask for permission first. A short yes on WhatsApp is enough to keep safe.

Why should I tag the other vendors from a wedding?

They often reshare, and their followers see your work. Vendors who tag each other also send each other leads.

What is a Click to WhatsApp ad?

It is an ad with a button that opens a WhatsApp chat with you. It suits businesses that win work through chats.

Can I run ads with a small budget?

Yes. Start with one ad using your best reel and a daily amount you can afford to test for a week.

How do I know if my ads work?

Count real enquiries and bookings, not likes. Ask every new client how they found you.

Is SEO useful for a wedding business?

Yes. It helps couples find you when they search things like "wedding photographer in Kolkata". It takes time, so start early.

I am a dentist. Can I advertise wedding smile care?

Yes, but doctors and dentists in India face strict advertising rules. Keep posts helpful and educational, and read our rules guide first.

What can a dentist post during wedding season?

Simple tips: when to start smile care, what a cleaning involves and how to book a check-up. Avoid before and after photos and big claims unless the rules allow them.

Do jewellers and boutiques need a different plan?

They sell on trust and looks. Reels, a WhatsApp catalogue and good Google photos matter most. See our jewellery and boutique guides.

I only have one weekend. What should I do?

Fix your Google profile, set up WhatsApp Business, make a review link and rewrite your Instagram bio. All four are free.

What is the biggest mistake wedding vendors make?

Replying late. A slow reply loses a booking even when your work is great.

Should I keep marketing after the season ends?

Yes. The next wave of couples starts looking months ahead. Keep posting and keep collecting reviews.

How much should I spend on marketing?

It depends on your size and goal. Start small, track enquiries and grow only what works. Our cost guide shows typical ranges for Kolkata.

Can DotCreative manage this for me?

Yes. We handle websites, local SEO and Google profile, social media and reels, and Meta ads. A free consultation is the first step.
